Surgery

We perform most standard, non-specialist soft tissue surgeries at The Naked Vet, including desexing and lump removals.

We do not perform orthopaedic surgery. If your pet requires this, we will organise a visiting surgeon to perform it at our clinic or refer you to a specialist surgeon at one of the Veterinary Specialist centres in Brisbane, depending on your preference.

We recommend Veterinary Specialist Centres such as Animal Referral Hospital (Seventeen Mile Rocks), Veterinary Specialist Services (Jindalee and Underwood), and Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre (Albany Creek).

When your pet has surgery at The Naked Vet, they will receive the following as standard:

  • A minimum of a pre-anaesthetic blood panel will help us assess your pet’s anaesthetic risk regardless of the type of procedure. We will discuss the selection of blood tests with you before surgery.
  • Intravenous fluid therapy maintains blood pressure and protects internal organs like the kidneys.
  • Laser therapy at the surgery site before and after the surgical procedure. This assists in pain relief and improves healing of the surgery site.
  • Pre and post-operative pain relief using a combination of opioids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories will always be administered.
  • Take-home pain relief is generally in the form of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories.
  • Depending on the surgery site, an Elizabethan Collar or body suit – even if you don’t think your pet might lick or chew their stitches, there’s a good chance they will!
